The project
NapaGeo was created as an experimental and research initiative in collaboration with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICA) of the Politecnico di Milano, the Civil Protection Department of the Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Po River Basin Authority. The objective of NapaGEO is to present complex data for emergency management and the planning of major works and infrastructure for protection against hydrogeological risks for the Po River Basin. The challenge is to be able to provide dynamic views based on user needs, without the user knowing the underlying data catalog. A NON-GIS approach that allows access to what is necessary based on the situation and specific skills of the user. NapaGEO displays and simulates near real-time data, providing immediate summaries based on the situation and context.
A shared map for integrated management
The introduction of NapaGeo has enabled the creation of a single, shared database that centralizes information on pipelines, electrical networks, telecommunications systems, and other underground utilities. The agencies involved can view and update data, avoiding overlap on construction sites, reducing costs and time, and improving operational safety. The system also ensures the traceability of changes, making every update transparent.
A platform designed for public operators
NapaGeo was designed with the operator's experience in mind: the platform includes tools for reporting anomalies, requesting validations from managing bodies, and creating automatic reports to attach to executive projects. Everything is geared towards simplifying collaboration between technicians, institutions, and companies, following national standards and improving the efficiency of public works.
Technology at the service of planning
Thanks to the use of open source technologies and scalable architectures, NapaGeo can be integrated with municipal information systems and evolve over time. The GIS component enables spatial analysis, simulations, and impact assessments. The features have been developed to meet the real needs of the territory, ensuring high performance and full compatibility with existing operational flows.
